Cosmo Cup, the first online female-focused e-sports tournament in the GCC, counters the claim on the gaming world being a “boys only club.”

Through the game Cosmopolitan Middle East, the biggest international female-focused media brand in the region is putting in an effort to reach out to their most effective demographic, female gamers.

Cosmopolitan ME is also collaborating with ITP Gaming, who are organizers of the biggest title launches and tournaments in the Middle East, including Fortnite Season X, Call of Duty Warfare and PS4’s Death Stranding, to give gamers the best experience.

With the digital age in full swing and social distancing in place, the attention of local Gen-Zers has been diverted towards gaming.

Milli Midwood, Editor in Chief of Cosmo ME said: “as we look into the future through the apertures of Gen-Z’s screens, the results indicate a new direction in how these young people want to communicate - and it’s through gaming.”

Gaming is projected to be a $257 billion industry by 2025, with Gen-Zers making up 90% of the players. The Middle East is the fastest growing region with gaming revenue’s increasing +14.5% year-on-year. Saudi Arabia and the UAE rank in the top five countries across the MENA region.

So, there’s no better way for Cosmopolitan ME to connect with viewers than through online games. Milli Midwood added: “Cosmo has always been the voice of the younger generation”

The game is said to kick off at the end of September with over 1,000 participants both male and female competing for first, second and third place to win big prizes.

It will follow a three-week gaming format with the first week allocated for registration, followed by one week of qualifiers and another week of finals.

Alia Fawad, Director of ITP Gaming, added: “It’s great to see a brand like Cosmo ME taking the lead in gaming in this region. The exponential growth of gaming among young women, particularly women in Saudi Arabia, shows that the Cosmo Cup will be the perfect platform for gamers to take part in this competitive tournament.”
