Exciting times for the residents of this Dubai neighborhood...

Jumeirah Lakes Tower a.k.a. JLT will be the first area in the UAE to be powered by a 5G network.

Etisalat and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) announced the news on Sunday and the roll out is scheduled to begin this week.

“Together we will enrich the community lifestyle experience, reduce environmental footprint, provide smart solutions to improve transportation and deliver efficient public utilities,” DMCC (@dmcc_authority) captioned on Instagram.

Fifth generation mobile internet connectivity is the fastest form of data one can get that is faster, more stable, and has great coverage. Download speeds are expected to be up to 20 times faster with 5G.

This new system will turn Jumeirah Lakes Towers into a smart district and will be a greater step for the UAE towards interconnectivity. Over 16, 000 companies and 100, 000 people will be able to benefit from the new network.

“This will transform the JLT community to become the first 5G-powered smart district in the region, making it a more seamless, efficient and safe experience for its members, residents and visitors,” Salvador Anglada, Group Chief Business Officer of Etisalat said.

Etisalat also said that it will start providing smarter solutions to parking, street lighting, air quality, noise pollution, environmental performance, and traffic monitoring.

“Both entities will work to empower the community, reduce environmental footprint, provide smart solutions to improve infrastructure and deliver efficient public utilities,” Anglada added.

Feryal Ahmadi, Chief Operating Officer of DMCC, said that the 5G system will deliver a better, cleaner, and more sustainable quality of life to the residents of JLT.

“With Etisalat Digital’s support, DMCC will introduce a new wave of innovation to Dubai, and completely transform how we respond to the needs of the community,” Ahmadi said.

“The smart solutions planned will accelerate our sustainability drive and increase safety, reduce health risks, lower pollution, boost social connectedness and ultimately, deliver a cleaner and more sustainable environment for all.”
