This Gadget Just Turned 40

The Sony Walkman celebrated its 40th birthday on the 1st of July.

This device revolutionised how we listened to music as now listeners could hear their favourite songs on the go and could listen privately.

The Walkman was the pioneer in the portable music device field and can also be considered the father of the iPod.

It’s unbelievable that the Walkman has been around longer than most of us, but here are even more gadgets that are at least a generation old.

USB Flash Drives

These little bad boys have been around since 1999, when the first patent for them was registered. The first one was sold in 2000, and they continue to be important data storage devices.


First released in 1996, the virtual pet device proves to be just as popular as they are set for a re-release soon.

Nintendo Game Boys

Your inner child may scream when it hears that the Game Boy has been around since 1989. It has certainly left a legacy as a cultural icon of its time.


Philips and Sony collaborated to create the compact disc, which was released in 1982.

Even though Generation Z is moving towards digital sale of music, CDs continue to be just as important in the music industry.


I bet you youngsters thought you were way cooler than your parents for having an iPhone?

Unfortunately for you, the first smartphone came out in 1994 and it had a calculator, address book, notepad and a touchscreen!
