These little icons that have revolutionised the way we communicate, and sometimes are even more helpful in expressing our feelings than words!

World Emoji Day is the brainchild of Jeremey Burge (@jeremyburge), creator of Emojipedia, the universal database for all the emojis out there.

See how the world is celebrating!

Why today? It’s for an easier reason than you think; the calendar emoji shows the date July 17th!

Follow #WorldEmojiDay on Twitter and Instagram to participate in lots of fun activities, and vote for lots of different categories like Best Emoji, and 2019’s Emoji of the Year.

The icing on the cake is that Apple is releasing 59 new emojis this fall and is previewing 20 of them today!

They include many more disability-themed emojis, such as guide dogs, prosthetic limbs and wheelchairs, showing the diversity that Apple is celebrating.

They’ve also introduced a waffle, a flamingo and a big, yawning smiley; all essential for our daily use!
