Faouzia – a 20 year old Moroccan-Canadian singer – released her song Minefields with John Legend on January 28th. She initially announced the collaboration last year in November on her Instagram after launching her debut album Stripped.
Faouzia first rose to prominence with her song Mes Cicatrices – which won the Grand Prize in Le 100 Nons Le Chicane Électronique – an Annual Musical Competition – when she was only 15 years old. Shortly after, she created her YouTube channel – where she uploaded popular song covers. Her first cover of Weeknd’s Starboy got 1.3 million views – and she’s built a loyal fan base since. Talent Groups such as Paradigm Talent Agency took notice of Faouzia’s talent and offered to work with her. She eventually released her first single My Heart’s Grave – which got 4.5 million views.
Faouzia’s big break – however – was with renowned French DJ David Guetta – who discovered Faouzia’s music online and collaborated with her for his song Battle. She also got the opportunity to collaborate with French Rapper Ninho on his song Money – which received over 15 million streams in France. The collaborations boosted her presence on Spotify – with 2 million listeners and 16.2 million streams in 2019.
With the support from her growing fanbase and Atlantic Records, she released her debut album Stripped in August 2020 – which included 5 songs that were previously released on her YouTube channel.
Described as “one of the most powerful new voices you’ll hear this year” by Billboard, Faouzia is quickly carving a name for herself in the music industry. At just twenty years old, the Canadian-Moroccan singer is only getting started.
