SNL mocks YouTube apology videos in latest comedy sketch

Is SNL targeting David Dobrik? Viewers seem to think so.

SNL mocks YouTube apology videos in latest comedy sketch

We all know at least one YouTuber who has posted an apology video for their past mistakes. Saturday Night Live definitely does – and they decided to have a bit of fun with it.

In a recent comedy sketch titled “Viral Apology Video”, Saturday Night Live (SNL) mocks YouTubers and their under-delivering apology videos. The sketch features a group of content creators who post prank videos on YouTube. Faux YouTuber Marky Munro [played by Kyle Mooney] is constantly posting apology videos: whether it’s for insensitive comments that have come back to haunt him or uploading a heavily criticized kissing prank on his channel – Munro can’t seem to keep his audience happy.

Although they have yet to comment, many viewers think that SNL is mocking David Dobrik and the Vlog Squad – who have recently come under public fire.

Viewers aren’t entirely wrong: there are many similarities between the SNL sketch and all the drama surrounding Dobrik and his vlog squad.

The biggest one is Munro’s apology for a kissing prank: in the past month, former Vlog Squad member Seth Francois called out Dobrik for not removing a kissing prank video from his YouTube channel. During the prank, Francois was tricked into kissing Jason Nash: Francois – who did not give his consent and was left traumatized by the experience – revealed that Dobrik refused to remove the video after asking him to multiple times.

The SNL sketch also featured Munro crying over his lost brand partnerships. In late March, Dobrik had posted a second apology video on his main channel – which was not well received: many fans felt that Dobrik had only apologized because he had lost multiple brand sponsorships with companies such as SeatGeek, EA Sports, Audible, HBO, and General Mills.
