Dubai, UAE: Beyond Your Limits Events and DXBookLove are thrilled to present the highly acclaimed Lebanese comedy-drama Mafroukeh Play at The Theatre in the Mall of the Emirates on Tuesday 7th, and Wednesday 8th March 2023. The play is under the Patronage of H.E. Assaf Doumit, Consul General of Lebanon in Dubai and Northern Emirates on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Mafroukeh is a production written and produced by Marwa Khalil and Wafaa Halawi, directed by Riad Chirazi, and starring all Marwa, Wafaa, and Serena Chami. The play follows the story of Amal, played by all three actresses, as she navigates the challenges of divorce and rebuilds her life amidst the emotional and social-economic effects that come with it.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of laughter and tears as we experience an empowering journey through Amal’s eyes. As she confides in an imaginary neighbor, Amal shares her story and perspectives on family, motherhood, careers, relationships, and the social-economic injustices inflicted upon her. The play culminates with the occasion of her son’s birthday, as the broken family comes together with the ex-husband and his new fiancée, the ex-mother-in-law, and the children. What is Amal’s new place in the family? More importantly, what is her place in society?
“Mafroukeh,” which is a sweet and nutty Lebanese dessert, is the inspiration for the title of the play, and it perfectly captures the theme of the production. As the dessert is “washed-out, kneaded, squeezed, and drained,” so too is Amal’s life. But as she rebuilds her life, we see she becomes stronger and more resilient.
