Facebook launches in-app Spotify mini player across 27 different countries

Facebook has just released their new in-app mini player in partnership with audio streaming platform Spotify. The feature is compatible with iOS and Android devices across 27 regions including the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia.

The mini player allows Facebook users to listen to songs on Spotify without leaving the Facebook app. Non-Premium Spotify users  – however – will still be subject to Spotify ads. Facebook revealed that its app will be receiving “limited data’ on Spotify users –  such as subscription type – to improve the mini player’s performance but will not be using this data for targeted ads.

To launch the mini player on the Facebook app, follow these 4 easy steps:

  1. Click the “Play” button on the song from Spotify shared by your Facebook friends or favorite online creators
  2. A consent dialog box will pop you. Tap on “Connect’ to agree.
  3. If your device is already logged in to Spotify, the song will automatically play. Otherwise, you will be asked to login
  4. The song chosen will then play while you scroll through your Facebook Feed. You can also use the multiple options displayed to pause or exit the mini player.

Facebook will be extending Spotify’s mini player feature to other countries in the coming months.
