The event was hosted by Jay Shetty and Radhi Shetty and raised over $1 million – with all proceeds going to non-profit organizations GiveIndia and Indiaspora in order to provide India with medical supplies to survive their deadly second wave of COVID-19 cases.
Jay Shetty expressed his sorrow for India’s rising COVID cases and called upon his followers to donate towards the COVID-19 relief fund:
“We are devastated by the news of the rising tragedies in India. They urgently need our help, and we are so grateful to our friends, communities and audiences that will participate in making a difference this weekend. We know you’ll show up.”
Celebrities such as Will Smith, Jada Smith, Ellen DeGeneres, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello and Hrithik Roshan were among the largest donors for the YouTube fundraiser event.
You all have such huge hearts and we couldn’t be more grateful for your support! This money will go a long way! Let’s keep going.
Donate NOW if you can. Help is still needed. Every little bit counts: https://t.co/SBfWouyIlH pic.twitter.com/XsvFy3WkFd— Jay Shetty (@JayShettyIW) May 3, 2021
