Facebook’s Oculus Studios has acquired BigBox VR

Facebook’s Oculus Studios has announced its acquisition of the firm BigBox VR. The tech firm is popularly known for their VR game “Population: One,” which was in partnership with Oculus Studios.

Mike Verdu, VP of Content at Facebook Reality Labs, shared his excitement over the latest acquisition:

“We’re excited to help BigBox VR grow and accelerate their vision for POPULATION: ONE as a state-of-the-art VR social gaming experience, as well as pursue future projects, with access to the resources and support of Facebook and Oculus Studios, all while maintaining the team’s creativity, disciplined methodology, and commitment to community.”

Facebook also revealed its plans in investing and assisting BigBox VR to further grow POPULATION: ONE among the VR industry:

“We continue to invest in content that fosters social connection, and we believe POP:ONE delivers this experience to the VR community in spades within a super fun gaming experience. As part of the Oculus Studios family, BigBox VR will have the opportunity to grow POP: ONE and cultivate its community with the full support of Oculus Studios resources, and, in the future, pursue other projects.”

POPULATION: ONE will be available across their social media platforms post-acquisition. BigBox VR will also be helping Steam + Oculus in various aspects which include SteamVR headsets HTC Vive and Valve Index.
