Super Mario Bros. sells for a record $2 million

A sealed 1985 Super Mario Bros. video game copy has been sold for a record $2 million. Collectibles firm Rally had earlier purchased the Super Mario Bros. sealed copy for $140,000 in April 2020, and investors later rejected a $300,000 offer for it the same year.

Rob Petrozzo, Co-founder of Rally, highlighted the growing rise of purchasing gaming collectibles around the world:

“I think that we’re starting to see the natural progression of ‘What else? What are the things that have appreciated in value from my childhood that have that nostalgia?’”

The previous record holder for gaming collectibles was the sealed copy of Super Mario 64 that was sold by American auction house Heritage Auctions for a staggering $1.56 million.
