“The Haim Sisters”: All-female rock band marks their 10-year anniversary this July

All About Este, Danielle & Alana and their sibling rock band “Haim The Band” which is ruling the music industry

Haim sisters - rock band

Haim The Band consisting of three sisters – Este, Danielle, and Alana, have been creating rock music for over a decade now, and they recently announced marking 10 years anniversary of their first album ‘Days are Gone’ which they released back in 2013. They recorded the album while the sessions between their touring dates, including their appearances at the Glastonbury Festival.

The Haim sisters make up one of the biggest sibling bands in America and count iconic music legends like Elton John, Taylor Swift, and Lorde among their biggest collaborators and fans. They have performed with Foo Fighters, Lizzo, and Stevie Nicks, and sharing the stage with such legends isn’t an easy nut to crack especially for an all-female band.

They recently posted on Instagram, captioning “This record was a labor of love, with songs we’d been writing since high school in our living room. To celebrate, we made a special edition re-issue of our vinyl and cd that comes out September 29th.”

The musical journey of “Haim sisters”

“Haim The Band” is an American rock band consisting of three sibling sisters based in Los Angeles who started their journey in the music industry in 2007. Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim are each proficient in several other musical instruments apart from the primary ones that they prefer playing during their shows.

The sisters prefer their live shows and their studio songs to keep contrasting. It’s their ideology that the group’s pop sound in their studio work stands in contrast to the more rock-oriented sound of their live shows.

The sibling group made music history at the 2021 Grammys, where they became the first all-female rock band who got nominated for album of the year. They preferred not to discuss specifically being women in music the whole time, but couldn’t resist the temptation of naming their third full-length album – Women in Music Pt. 3.

Haim sisters got music from their parents

The parent of these musical sisters, Mordechai Moti and Donna Haim claims to meet each other on a blind date. Donna, who was the winner of an episode of ‘The Gong Show’ covering Bonnie Raitt was intended to walk out of the place when Moti began drumming at the table.

The couple fell deeply in love because of their passion and bonding over music, and it is obvious that their daughters have inherited music in their blood from both of their parents. The elder sisters with their parents formed a family band and named it ‘Rockinhaim’, and at that time the youngest Alana was just 5 years old. Parents taught the girls how to play musical instruments and took them to piano lessons.

“It was the best school. To learn songs, we’d have to record them off the radio to cassette tape and then press pause and play for hours to learn all the chords and lyrics by ear. By the end, we knew every chord progression out there.” Alana told in an interview back in 2012.

Known for using “sisters’ telepathy” in their songwriting

The Haim sisters are known for always being in sync with one another. It’s like they have an unseen thread connecting them with each other so wildly and so deeply, that they sometimes manage to collaborate without even speaking a word. They call it ‘Sister telepathy’ and truly believe in it.

When speaking about the songwriting and production process of their albums, they were seen quoting, “Sister telepathy is a real thing. Because we’re family, it’s easy to trust who you’re working with.”

With all the positive impacts, sometimes there are negative effects too like their closeness to each other and the connection is the reason for their sync on stage which could affect them badly because of any communication gap. Este told in an interview, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, and after a series of personal struggles, including the death of a close friend, the sisters were closer than ever — but they were having trouble communicating.”

But they felt those emotions anyway, and the sisters think it might be genetic.

“We do have a theory also that our grandma is clairvoyant, so it might’ve been passed down from generation to generation,” Este quoted. “There’s a telepathy that doesn’t happen if you’re not a sister.”
