That was 20 years ago and to celebrate just how far she’s come since then – grossing $3.1billion (£2.2billion) in the film industry and racking up 70million record sales – Jennifer decided to give her fans a little (ok, huge) treat.
Jennifer Lopez 20th Anniversary For 2nd Album
On Instagram, Lopez re-created part of the music video for her single, in which she slowly strips while walking. J.Lo even set her fans a challenge to also re-create the iconic “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” music video. She wrote on Instagram, “Happy 20th Anniversary to my 2nd album J.Lo!!!! Had a little fun at a recent shoot #Throwback #LoveDontCostAThing #JLO20thAnniversary #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge @jlobeauty#JLOBeauty.”
Jen shared a video of her recreating her iconic music video to Love Don’t Cost A Thing and it is everything.
Y’know the one, where she sassily struts down to the beach just casually taking off her expensive clothes and throwing away her jewellery just to prove a point that she can’t be bought. How could we forget.
Jen ends up down at the beach and looks incredible as she expertly writhes around in the sand and playfully whips off her top while pushing away the camera.
Well, 20 years on and the star is up to her old tricks and, boy, that woman does not age.
In the new video clip, Lopez can be seen wearing a vintage J.Lo shirt.
Love Don’t Cost A Thing went on to become one of Jennifer’s biggest hits and became her first ever UK number one single, while her album J Lo debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
It topped the chart in the same week her film The Wedding Planner – a rom-com she stars alongside Matthew McConaughey in – topped the box office, making her the first ever female in the US to have a number one album and film at the same time.
Lopez, who recently performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, has been through a lot over the years. During a recent chat with Jay Shetty for the debut episode of Coach Conversations, the entertainer opened up about learning to love herself.
“I remember when I was going through therapy, in the beginning, kind of in my late 30s, and there was a lot of talk about loving yourself,” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘I love myself.’ But obviously I was doing all these things, like my personal relationships didn’t seem like I was loving myself.”
“I didn’t even understand the concept of it,” she added. “It took time and it’s a journey and it’s still a journey for me.”
As for her goals for the future, Lopez said her mantra for 2021 is “dream on.”
“My dream is that together, this year, we can make a more unified, more loving, more accepting, more understanding world,” she shared. “I always want to inspire, inspire different things in people … and in these times, where all of us can feel lost, I want to give people some hope and some direction.”
