Snapchat is looking at new ways of protecting its users’ privacy – and it’s starting with Snap Maps.
Last week, a curious netizen discovered the story-sharing platform is slowly rolling out a new update that will give its users more control over who can view their whereabouts on Snap Map.
According to TechCrunch “. . . Snapchat now lets you send your ongoing real-time location to a friend, or request theirs, which show up on the Snap Map and within your message thread.”
The new feature only works if both users are friends within the app, giving Snapchat fans more control over who can (and can’t) view their location in Snap Map.
A user can also cancel someone’s access to their Snap Map at any time, and location data will only be available for up to 8 hours after a user last opened the app.
In the past Snapchat has been criticized for lack of privacy controls. Snap Map’s new “send” and “request” features will give current users more confidence in the story-sharing app, while hopefully attracting new users to the platform.Â
Snapchat has had a rough year, with its stock prices recently dropping to 17 cents per share at the beginning of the month. We’re sure the story-sharing platform is keen to make some big changes in order to keep its users happy.
