TikTok is slowly taking over – and no, we’re not talking about the 2009 pop hit by Kesha, we’re referring to the social media app.
Although launched in 2017, Gen Z are giving the app a moment and TikTok is now being used in conjunction with Instagram as both apps have unique features that the other doesn’t.
Content creators are benefiting from these differences and are using them to leverage their coverage and content, engaging their existing audience in a new way and gaining new followers too.
If you’re still hesitant to what TikTok is and whether you should download it, the app is basically used to create and share short music videos, essentially allowing users to express themselves through singing dancing and lips-syncing.
How exactly are beauty and fashion influencers using this platform? Through humour and breaking down the #InstagramFace barrier. We are now looking at TikTok for outfit inspiration, home aesthetic and beauty tutorials. It’s clear that for millennials Instagram provided the above, yet for Gen Z TikTok is doing just that just in a more fun, supportive and interactive way.
Here are four fashion and beauty TikTokers that do an excellent job of providing you with your daily dose of glam, while also cracking you up.
Loren Gray (@lorengray)
Lauren has – wait for it – 35.1 million followers on TikTok and 2114.5 million likes. Her doll-like appearance will have you mesmerised, this combined with her sense of humour of miming iconic lyrics, and movie quotes is a winning combination. Yet, Loren showcases her downtimes too such as an allergic reaction of her face at Coachella and footage of her after dental surgery, breaking down those ‘unattainable’ ideals.
Kristen Hancher (@kristenhancher)
With 23.1 million followers and 1669.3 million likes Kristen’s TikTok shows her transforming for each video, usually with the use of wigs. Through her make-up choices and tutorials, her followers are able to see the different sides to her personality; her content is a mix of lip-syncing along with showcasing her gymnastic skills.

Lani Baker (@lani.baker)

Her Instagram shows her model lifestyle and BTS shots, where her TikTok acts in contrast to that showcasing her personality with comedic videos that sometimes include her mum; adorable.
