7 THINGS WE’VE ALL DONE IN LOCKDOWN

Now that we’ve moved on to more relaxed regulations regarding the global pandemic, let’s look back at some things we’ve all done in what I’d like to call “Phase 1” of lockdown

7 THINGS WE’VE ALL DONE IN LOCKDOWN

Let’s just jump straight into the list, shall we?

1. Banana bread

Of all the things we could’ve decided to learn, why did we all make banana bread? There are so many better cakes and desserts, and we chose this one? Maybe it’s the low-risk, high reward nature of it, I’m still not sure.

2. Panic Buying

Aside from making our own snack foods, there was definitely a period of time when we all flooded to the nearest supermarkets to make sure we were prepared, though it felt like preparing for a zombie apocalypse, not a pandemic.

3. DIY projects

To make up for the things that we weren’t able to buy, we all took on some form of DIY task. Whether it was an at-home wax (very sticky, do not recommend) or creating new home décor out of old records, we’ve all had varying degrees of success.

4. Home workouts

Finding ways to stay fit has been challenging but we’ve definitely been helped along by the surge of YouTube fitness videos. For every unhealthy meal that we know we shouldn’t have had, Chloe Ting has put out a video to keep us strong and lean.

5. Tiger King

Do you think Carole Baskin killed her husband? This is the question the viral Netflix show Tiger King prompted debates and controversy over. However, with exotic pet ownership becoming more and more common, perhaps instead the show should have focussed more on the question: is exotic pet ownership ethical? In the early episodes, the show exposes the conditions Joe Exotic’s animals are kept in and the “collector mania” that is prevalent among big cat owners, showing the 200 tigers pacing their cells and staring blankly at walls. Throughout the show, there is a distinct lack of information on the correct standards for captive tigers and why Exotic’s behaviour is irresponsible. But does this mean keeping exotics as pets should be banned? Join us for a lunch and learn on the 28th at 2pm BST to discuss this topic! I know we’ve all been desperate to entertain ourselves at home, but I think it’s time we tell the truth: Tiger King was just not that good. How the world sat through ten hours of that show, I’ll never know. However, I do thank Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin for the memes.

6. Netflix Binges

It’s not just Tiger King, though. You’d be lying if you said you hadn’t watched pretty much everything you could find on Netflix. I certainly have. I’ve even watched The Good Place all the way through… thrice.

7. Zoom quizzes

Social distancing has made it very hard to spend time with our friends, so the obvious solution was to participate in pub quiz nights over Zoom! Although this was a lot of fun to begin with, it got old really fast, and always took far longer than it should have.

How many of these things have you done?
