The iconic Fast & Furious Franchise is unfortunately coming to an end with its final two installments, the 10th and the 11th film.
According to Variety, Justin Lin, the director of the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and the ninth installments of The Fast & Furious Films, will return to direct the last two films, bringing the franchise to a conclusion after over two decades!
However, this does not mean the franchise universe is coming to an end forever! Fans can still look forward to the spin-off movies based on the Fast & Furious characters that are currently being developed at Universal!
One of the spin-offs arrived in 2019, titled “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” which originally starred two of the most well-known names in the industry, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The spin-off performed incredibly well in theatres, bringing in around $174 million with its release.
The latest film in the Fast & Furious collection, titled “F9” has been in the works and was originally set to debut earlier this year, however, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Universal shifted schedules and delayed its release to the next year, 2021. Deadline originally reported the news.
The film includes the franchise regulars including Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson as well as actors who played in previous installments including Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, fan-favorite Sung Kang and more. John Cena will also make his Fast and Furious debut as the character Jakob Toretto who is supposedly the newest villain and Dom’s younger brother.
Popular music stars Cardi B and Ozuna will also make an appearance.
