Having joined the app TikTok in April of 2020, it is fascinating to see that 23-year-old Bella Poarch has racked up such a massive following in very little time. In August, Bella posted a video of herself lip-syncing to the viral “M to the B” tune on TikTok. The short clip now has over 535 million views.
Bella’s claim to fame was unexpected–even for her. In a social media post from December 2 she stated, “overnight, my life changed because of an app someone told me to download.” In the same post, Bella explained that her speedy rise to fame has taken a toll on her mental health. Bella’s most viral video was subject to a lot of internet hate and criticism, resulting in many influencers jumping to her defense in the comments.
Nonetheless, Bella seems to be getting more familiar with being in the spotlight on social media. Recently Bella has appeared in several campaigns for various brands. She did an ad for Valentino’s Voce Viva fragrance, another video for Moncler, and various other campaigns.
Bella’s authenticity and unexpected rise to fame are perhaps why brands are eager to work with her. Kristan Maurer, assistant Vice President of communications for the L’Oréal designer fragrance portfolio stated about Bella’s video, “It was our first-ever TikTok campaign that we ran for the brand, and it’s a relatively new platform for our division overall.” (via Glossy). We are eager to see what’s in store next for Bella.
