JUICY COUTURE’S COMEBACK

How social media trends prompted the rebirth of the iconic Juicy Couture tracksuit.

JUICY COUTURE’S COMEBACK

Originally created in Los Angeles in 1997, the Juicy Couture tracksuit is one of the most iconic looks from the 2000s. Popularized by none other than Paris Hilton, the tracksuit was worn by the likes of Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, and more.

2000s fashion, also known as Y2K fashion, has made a massive comeback on social media. Its resurgence can be attributed to Gen Z’s rediscovery of the various trends. For instance, the popularization of boot-leg jeans and yoga pants in 2020. Many of these trends were started on TikTok and Instagram. YouTuber and social media influencer Emma Chamberlain is one of the powerful forces creating these trends, having cause a shortage of black, boot-leg yoga pants after posting herself sporting a pair on Instagram.

With the Coronavirus Pandemic keeping people at home for the majority of the year, consumers seemed to be longing for more comfortable fashion. Athleisure tracksuits can be found on almost any fast-fashion site. Moreover, Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand took the liberty of creating its velour tracksuits, which have sold out multiple times. The advertising campaign included Kim and Paris walking around and taking photos in the tracksuits, emulating their looks from the 2000s.

Among this resurfacing of Y2K trends and longing for comfort, are the Juicy Couture tracksuits, which have made a massive comeback. Having seen the opportunity and the demand, Juicy Couture relaunched the tracksuit this year on their website. Juicy is the perfect example of how social media trends can allow for the resurfacing of certain looks, or, entire brands.
