OLIVIA RODRIGO’S VIRAL NEW “DRIVER’S LICENSE”

Last Friday, 17-year-old Disney star made singer, Olivia Rodrigo released her newest single, “Driver’s License.” The song has gone viral on social media, specifically Tik Tok.

In her new track, Rodrigo sings of an ex-relationship and uses the metaphor of driving and a driver’s license to do so. People have taken to social media to explain their theories regarding the song. Many believe it to be about her Disney co-star Joshua Bassett–who is now rumoured to be dating ex-Disney-star Sabrina Carpenter.

Rodrigo and Bassett were co-stars on the High School Musical spinoff by Disney and many believed that they had some sort of romantic relationship. In “Driver’s License,” Rodrigo sings, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl/ Who always made me doubt/ She’s so much older than me/ She’s everything I’m insecure about.” Fans are under the impression that Carpenter is who the singer is referencing. Allegedly, Bassett may have taught the singer a thing or two about driving, which is what prompted the driving metaphor.

So, what did Olivia have to say?

In an email subscriber message, she wrote: “today my first song ‘drivers license’ is out everywhere! Im sooo excited its finally out in the universe!”

“I wrote ‘divers license’ about six months ago after crying to Gracie Abrams‘ songs in my car for an hour. lol,” she continued. “It really captured the intricacies of how I was feeling at the time. I think its one of the first songs ever written to truly do that.”
