So – what are these updated features? Facebook is helping content creators increase their revenue in the following ways:
Short Form Videos:
Creators will now be able to monetize all video types and to test sticker ads in stories: videos as short as 1 minute can now run 30-second ads while videos that are 3 minutes or longer can display 45-second ads. Previously – ads were only shown on 3+ minute videos.
More Inclusive Monetization Opportunities:
Facebook is expanding the pool of content creators who will be able to monetize their content: in-stream ad eligibility will now include in-stream ads for Live video. Access to online events and fan subscriptions will also be extended to additional countries.
Increased Access to Fan Support:
Facebook will give content creators increased access to fan support through the adoption of ‘free star giveaways’: viewers will be able to send their favorite creators stars – with each star holding a specific monetary value. New developments in fan support also include pinned comments for star senders and virtual gifts for creators.
Updated Eligibility for Facebook Gaming Partnerships:
Facebook will be updating their minimum eligibility criteria for aspiring Gaming creators who seek partnership with Facebook Gaming. At the moment, only Gaming creators from Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, the Philippines and the United States will be able to view the updated eligibility criteria. Facebook has stated they will expand into new regions soon.
The above monetization features will only be provided to content creators that abide by Facebook’s partner monetization policies and content monetization policies.
Facebook’s focus on monetizing short form videos will help them compete with TikTok – who currently dominates this space. With the addition of these new monetization features, Facebook is clearly attempting to attract more creators to its platform and to prevent existing users from migrating away.Â
