YouTube has temporarily banned David Dobrik and Durte Dom from monetizing their content on their YouTube channels after violating the ‘Creator Responsibility’ Policy – which holds content creators responsible for harming Youtube “users, community, employees or its ecosystem” on or off the platform.. This is the latest hit Dobrik and the Vlog Squad have taken after facing multiple sexual assault allegations over the past few weeks – including one from former Vlog Squad Member Seth Francois and another from a girl who was assaulted in a now deleted vlog.
The decision was shared by a YouTube spokesperson to Business Insider:
“We have strict policies that prohibit sexual harassment on YouTube and take allegations of sexual assault very seriously. We have temporarily suspended monetization on David Dobrik and Durte Dom channels for violating our Creator Responsibility policy”.
This is not the first time that YouTube has reprimanded one of its biggest content creators. In the past, the social media platform has demonetized big-name influencers – such as Shane Dawson, Steven Crowder and Logan Paul – for violating their policies and guidelines. Whether big or small – YouTube is set on keeping their content creators accountable and responsible for their actions.
In light of this accountability, Dobrik has uploaded two apology videos – one to his Views podcast channel and the other to his main channel – where he addresses the allegations made against him and announces his indefinite break from social media.
Before YouTube demonetized his three channels – David Dobrik, David Dobrik Too, and Views – multiple companies such as EA Sports and SeatGeek – who helped sponsor a lot of Dobrik’s content, including his token car giveaways – have cut their partnership deals with the famous vlogger.
With both his brand sponsorship deals and YouTube ad revenues gone, Dobrik’s career trajectory as a content creator is looking quite bleak. Will this be the official end-all to the Vlog Squad leader’s YouTube career? We will have to stick around to find out.
