Instagram announced via its official Twitter account that they are working on a new ‘Story Draft’ feature that will allow users to save drafts of their stories directly to the platform.

Adam Mosseri – the Head of Instagram – also confirmed the arrival of the new feature via Twitter. According to Mosseri, ‘Story Draft’ has been a highly demanded feature request from Instagram users.
You asked and we're delivering… story drafts coming soon

In short – the ‘Story Draft’ feature allows users to save unfinished stories – which they can return to and edit later on. Currently, Instagram users need to download unfinished stories to their phones and re-upload them to Instagram if they want to edit and post later.
Twitter user Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot of the feature – giving users a glimpse of what to expect:

This is how it will work: users can take or upload a story as normal. After they make an edit or add a tag(s), then can tap the back arrow. A prompt will then appear: users will be able to select if they want to discard the media or save it as draft. If you want to view your saved drafts, simply tap the + button: saved posts will appear below ‘Drafts’.
Note: if you don’t edit the post, tag people or add a caption and/or location, you will not be able to save the post as a draft.
Instagram has not yet confirmed when the feature will go live to users – since it’s currently in development. We can only hope that it will launch soon.
