Facebook launches #MonthofGood Guide for Ramadan

With COVID-19 bringing celebrations across the world to a grinding halt, Facebook is introducing a new set of tools to help users virtually celebrate Ramadan with their loved ones.

These new initiatives are a direct result of changes in Facebook user behavior during Ramadan: in 2020, Facebook noticed a huge influx of ‘Happy Ramadan’ Facebook posts and a giant spike in WhatsApp video calls during the first day of Eid. Facebook also revealed that there was a 2x increase in donations on Facebook and Instagram during Ramadan in 2020 compared to 2019.

Facebook’s #MonthofGood guide provides 30 innovative ways for users to celebrate Ramadan. Facebook will also collaborate with creators and NGOs during Ramadan to spotlight users who’ve made positive impacts in their communities. Facebook will also release new video content linked to #MonthofGood on @Instagram, @InstagramforBusiness, @Design, @Shop and @Creators.

Facebook revealed some of their line-up for the #MonthofGood:

“On Facebook, UK-based director Basma Khalifa will host a video series to celebrate today’s changemakers and small businesses in the Muslim community. Also, Teen Vogue Director of Fashion and Beauty Features Tahirah Hairston will moderate a panel about modesty in Western culture and inclusion within the fashion industry”.

Additionally, content creators – such as Khalid Al Ameri, The Food Rangers, Nefis Yemek Tarifleri, and Foodies & Spice – and media networks – such as MBC and RCTI – will create exclusive Ramadan content that will be available to watch on IGTV and Facebook Watch. Graphic designers have also rolled out creative Ramadan stickers and camera filters – which users can use on their social media stories and posts.

Lastly, Facebook will increase their philanthropic efforts by helping users to host fundraisers events in collaboration with non-profit organizations such as Rahma Worldwide, UNHCR, Heroic Hearts, Molham Volunteering Team and Zakat Foundation of America.
