Clubhouse Users can now send direct payments to their favorite creators.

Clubhouse has introduced its first monetization feature that allows users to pay content creators on the platform. Notably – Clubhouse will not be taking a percentage cut from the payments – as opposed to other social media platforms who do take a percentage from the creators’ proceeds: for example, YouTube and Twitch take 30% while TikTok takes 50%.

Although Clubhouse users have been granted access to pay their favourite creators – they will only be able to receive this income in installments. Moreover, Clubhouse has announced that the process to roll out payments to creators will be initially done through beta testing before the feature is rolled out fully.

The app’s monetization initiative also falls in line with their Clubhouse Creator First mentorship program – which was initially launched to support 20 creators in building a dedicated audience and eventually earning them income on the platform:

“From the earliest days of Clubhouse, a guiding principle has been to build a platform that puts the creator first. Our aim is to help creators build community, audience, and impact. And as Clubhouse continues to scale, it’s important to us to align our business model with that of the creators—helping them make money and thrive on the platform”.

So – how does it work? Users can simply navigate to the creator’s profile that they wish to make a payment to. If the creator has the monetization feature enabled, users will be able to tap on ‘Send Money’ and enter the specific amount to pay – either by debit or credit card.

With multiple social media apps creating Clubhouse-like features, this new announcement will provide an added incentive for creators to stay on the platform and earn money for their content.
