YouTube has announced that James Charles YouTube channel will be temporarily demonetized amidst growing allegations of his inappropriate behavior towards minors. This is YouTube’s second disciplinary action against Charles – who has been replaced as host for Season 2 of the YouTube series Instant Influencer.
A spokesperson from YouTube stated that Charles had violated one of the terms of their Creator Responsibility Policy by causing harm to users / YouTube community members off the social media platform.
Moreover, Morphe Cosmetics is the first major brand to cut ties with Charles – while other partnering brands such as Sephora, Ole Henriksen, and Sugar Bear Hair have not yet commented or taken any action against him. Morphe Cosmetics publicly announced their split with Charles on April 17 via Twitter:

Charles released a statement that he is taking accountability for his actions and that he has made a mutual decision with Morphe to part ways and to end the James Charles X Morphe collection.

In an effort to take accountability for his actions, Charles has already addressed many of the accusations against him in a recently released YouTube apology video:
“A power imbalance can happen when it’s not intentional. What I wasn’t getting before is that the excitement that comes with talking to a celebrity is literally enough to make somebody do or say something that they normally wouldn’t. Even if that celebrity isn’t intentionally weaponizing their fame, money or power. And that’s the concept that I just wasn’t getting but I now do”.
Youtube – who has recently also demonetized the YouTube channels belonging to Vlog Squad members David Dobrik and Durte Dom – is definitely not playing around in 2021 when it comes to creators violating their Creator Responsibility Policy.
