Finally! Creators can now directly modify their username on their YouTube profile.

YouTube announced on April 22 that their most-awaited feature is finally here! Users will now be able to directly modify their name and profile picture on their YouTube channel. Previously, creators could only modify their name and profile picture on their Google account but will now be able to do it independently.

So – how do you change your name and profile picture on your YouTube profile?

For Mobile Users

  1. Login to your mobile YouTube account
  2. Tap on your current profile picture and navigate to Your channel > Edit Channel
  3. Enter your new username and click OK
  4. Upload your desired profile picture and press Save to update the changes.

For Laptop Users

  1. Login to YouTube Studio
  2. Navigate to Customization > Basic Info and tap on Edit to modify the channel name. Then tap on Publish to update the changes.
  3. Navigate to Customization > Branding and tap on Upload to add your new profile picture. Press Done and then Publish to save the changes.

There is one downside to this new feature – however: YouTube revealed that verified creators will lose their verification badge if they change their username. Verified users who do make these changes will be required to re-apply for their verification badge after modifying their YouTube channel name.
