YouTuber Jeff Wittek has released his YouTube documentary series Don’t Try This At Home – which shows the events leading up to his life-threatening eye injury, his hospitalization, and his life post-accident. On April 15, Wittek released the trailer for the documentary – which revealed that the mysterious accident almost took his life.
Wittek initially spoke publicly about his accident in July 2020 on Instagram – leading many to speculate what the cause of his injury was:
“Sorry I haven’t posted any new pics of the mullet this week. I got in an accident and broke my face and skull in a few places. But I’m OK. I’m more alive than ever. I’ll heal up good as new, and I’ll get some new pics of that mullet up as soon as they can get me a blow dryer up to my hospital room”.
After 9+ months, Wittek’s documentary has broken the silence and is answering all his fans’ must-know questions. The series’ second episode titled HOW I BROKE MY FACE gave an exclusive look at the events leading up to the incident: Wittek was originally set to participate in David Dobrik’s comeback YouTube video – which consisted of vlog squad members such as Natalie Mariduena, Todd Smith, and Wittek solo diving out of a plane.
However – this is not what caused Wittek’s injury. Post sky-dive training, the full Vlog Squad team met up in Utah and decided to have some fun with an excavator in the middle of a lake. Dobrik – who was allegedly driving the excavator without a license – can be seen swinging his friends from a rope attached to the excavator.
Female Vlog Squad member Corinna Kopf unknowingly foreshadowed the disastrous incident: Kopf can be heard screaming at Dobrik that he ‘always takes things too far’ after he whipped her too fast on the excavator. Wittek went on the rope immediately after – not possessing the hindsight that he does now. With his final words being ‘I just jumped out of a plane 20 times. What’s the worst that could happen if I swing from a rope over a one foot deep lake?’, Wittek can be seen smashing head first into the water and then being drowned upside down with one foot caught in the rope hole:
Shortly after, Wittek released his third episode titled AFTER THE ACCIDENT on Twitter – warning viewers that there were graphic scenes of his injuries to his leg, hip, skull and eye. He also revealed that he would not be posting this episode to YouTube since they would either take it down or put an age-restriction on it. Therefore, Wittek has decided to post his most graphic, uncensored documentary episodes on his Patreon for his fans to watch.
Episode 3 will be released on my Patreon tonight. It’s just too graphic to put on YouTube. I’ll work on a censored version to put on my channel soon but it’s going to be tough since I can’t show my face because of the injuries. https://t.co/maqqiyPskW

Wittek shared his thoughts on the whole accident and how he should have never let someone put him in that situation:
“I felt stupid that I even got myself in that situation and that I even allowed somebody to have control over my life. I have played this out over and over again. I’m in this by myself now. I’m the one that has to deal with this injury”.
The third episode also reveals that Wittek wanted to completely “erase” the accident and get back to how he was before the incident. Moreover, he reveals the high number of body shaming comments he received after his accident and how they affected his mental health
