Mark Zuckerberg has revealed Facebook’s plans to provide creators an all-inclusive platform to build their careers. The announcement comes days after Apple modified its privacy guidelines – which will prevent social media apps from targeting ads to iOS users.
Zuckerberg hosted an Instagram Live alongside Instagram Head Adam Mosseri on April 27 – where he made the announcement:
Zuckerberg stated that Facebook aims to build an effective ads platform that will help creators directly earn revenue from their followers:
“Creators should be able to get a cut of the sales of things that they’re recommending and we should build up an affiliate recommendation marketplace to enable that to all happen. We’re not building this from the perspective of us trying to make a lot of money”.
The new platform will include features and tools such as Creator Shops – an extension of Instagram’s existing Shop feature that will aim to help creators launch their own online shops and sell products to their followers. This feature alone would be a huge incentive for creators to use Facebook-owned platforms to effectively build their businesses and to earn an income through product sales.
Zuckerberg also revealed that Instagram wants to be a one-stop “branded content marketplace”that will help influencers connect with sponsors and form long-lasting brand partnerships.
