Discord beta launches its first monetization feature and its new Discovery tab for creators

Discord has revealed that they are beta-testing a new creator monetization feature that allows creators to host high-capacity audio-only conferences and events.

During its beta-testing phase, the feature will only be accessible to 50 U.S creators – who will have full authority on how much they want to charge users for entry into their live audio events. Additionally, Discord shared its plans to introduce a “Stage Discovery” tab sometime in June. The feature would spotlight a diverse range of creators – helping them to reach a wider audience and build a dedicated fanbase.

The new creator monetization feature was allegedly launched to keep Discord competitive against Clubhouse – the leading platform for audio-only experiences. Discord’s Stage Channels feature was launched in early March to fulfill a similar purpose: Stage Channels allows a maximum of 1000 users per room and boasts a wide-range of Clubhouse-like features – which includes allowing users to raise their hands to share their thoughts during discussions and giving them the option to exit the group without interrupting the conversation.

Discord’s new monetization tool also parallels Ticketed Spaces – a feature recently announced by Twitter that allows creators to host paid live audio rooms on the platform.

The competition is clearly fierce amongst social media apps looking to create the ultimate in-app audio experience. Discord – however – is not backing down from big players Twitter and Clubhouse. After rising to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, Discord has brought together a community of 150 million monthly active users that don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. .

Do you think Discord can compete with Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse?
