Minecraft YouTuber Dream releases single ‘Mask’ that gives fans an up-close and personal look into his life

Popular YouTuber Dream has released his latest single ‘Mask’ – which has left fans speculating about the true meaning behind his lyrics. The song is Dream’s second single – having earlier released the single ‘Roadtrip’ in collaboration with music artist PmBata – who has previously worked alongside Mac Miller and Childish Gambino.

Fans took to Twitter to attempt to unravel the true meaning behind his latest track – which reveals a more personal side to the YouTuber, including his struggle with mental health. Some lyrics from the track include: “I wear a mask with a smile for hours at a time, stare at the ceiling while I hold back what’s on my mind and when they ask me how I’m doin’ I say I’m just fine”.

With countless interpretations circulating around Twitter, the majority of fans believe that the lyrics hint to his two different personas – personal and public – and his worsening struggle with putting on an act for the sake of social media.

Moreover, the second verse allegedly hints to why Dream chose to become a faceless YouTuber:

“But the fact is, I can never get off of my mattress
and all that they can ask is, why are you so sad kid, why are you so sad kid
that’s what the mask is, that’s what the point of the mask is
so you can see I’m trying, you won’t see me crying, i’ll just keep on smiling, i’m good
and it just keeps on piling, it’s so terrifying, but I keep on smiling, I’m good”.

Worried by his song lyrics, fans tweeted out to the YouTuber in support of his battle with mental health:

Within minutes of its release, Dream’s single Mask has amassed 6.5+ million views on YouTube and has earned a coveted spot on the iTunes’ top 10 US chart.

Do you think Dream could be releasing an album soon? We sure hope so.
