TikTok become the first app, not owned by Facebook, to reach 3 billion installs

TikTok has, evidently, become a source of stress for other social media platform teams. Instagram, Snapchat, and more have taken note of how TikTok’s success came about.

According to Sensor Tower, when you also include the Chinese version of the app called ‘Douyin’, TikTok has now surpassed 3 billion total downloads globally. This makes it the first non-Facebook-owned app to do so.

As stated by SensorTower: “TikTok was the most downloaded and highest-grossing non-game app globally in the first half of 2021, reaching nearly 383 million first-time installs and an estimated $919.2 million in consumer spending. Although new downloads of the app were down 38 percent year-over-year from nearly 619 million in 1H 2020 – a decline partially attributable to its removal from India’s app stores – consumer spending in TikTok was up 73 percent from $530.2 million in the year-ago period.”

TikTok’s unprecedented growth took many by surprise. When looking at the app from a marketing perspective, it becomes obvious that marketing on TikTok is a notable idea to entertain considering how wide the reach of the app is.
