Addison Rae is no stranger to controversy. Almost anything the 20-year-old TikTok star does gains attention as well as criticism. On July 10, Rae posted a tweet sharing pictures of herself holding a mic in front of a UFC sign with the caption, “I studied broadcast journalism in college for 3 whole months to prepare for this moment.”

The caption was a playful jab at the fact that Addison dropped out of college, where she was studying broadcast journalism, to pursue social media. Her tweet was met with significant criticism–one Twitter user writing: “So you’re taking a job from someone who [dedicates] their time and money to get such a job, whereas you get it because of fame.”
This is disrespectful to all the people who go to college and work their asses off for jobs like this and sometimes don’t even get them but because Addison has clout she gets them over QUALIFIED sports journalists

People’s main concern was that Addison was ‘taking jobs’ from other journalists who worked hard to get degrees and still have trouble getting hired. Rae responded to the backlash by quoting her own tweet and writing: “nvm y’all got me fired.”

It was revealed that Addison, in fact, was not hired by UFC and was simply posing for a photo-op. As per Dexerto, many also defended Addison: “Although she received a great deal of backlash, countless fellow creators and fans have tried to counter some of the criticism with support, with many saying that there was nothing wrong with her appearance and that the hate is undeserved.”
