Karen Wazen joins seven other Middle Eastern personalities nominated for the popular E! People’s Choice Awards in a historical move by the entertainment giant. For the first time ever, E! People’s Choice Awards have opened up a category dedicated solely to the Middle East, and we could not be more excited or proud. Although, if truth be told, it was a long time coming.
The Lebanese fashion icon and lifestyle Influencer, however, will have some stiff competition for the title of ‘Middle Eastern Social Media Star of 2021’ as the biggest names on the Persian Gulf are all on the list. Saudi Arabia’s OG fashion and style Influencer, Fozaza, joins Wazen on the list of nominees, as well as Egyptian beauty influencer and Instagram queen, Logina Salah. Kuwaiti style icon and fashion Influencer, Ascia, and Iraqi YouTuber, Noor Stars, round out the females on the list, while Emirati storyteller Khalid Al Ameri, Syrian actor and comedian, Amr Maskoun, and Bahraini filmmaker, Omar Farooq, represent the male stars in the running.
Speaking about their nominations, the social media stars all expressed their delight, honor, and gratitude for being recognized for what they do on a global scale like the People’s Choice Awards.
“I’m so proud that there’s a category celebrating Middle Eastern voices. I’ve been such a fan of the People’s Choice Awards for years and to be nominated is already a win for me,” says Wazen.
Fozaza adds, “It’s always a blessing and a reward in itself to be recognized and acknowledged for your passions, especially in the Middle East. I’m very grateful to be nominated for the People’s Choice Awards mainly because the people are the ones I do this for every day. Giving me the chance to be the audience’s lens into the beauty of the Arab world.”
Al Ameri put our thoughts into words exactly when he said, “Since we started our journey of entertaining people on social media, our goal has always been to build bridges between different parts of the world, to bring people closer together, and to show the world that there is more that makes us similar than makes us different. Just being recognized and nominated by the People’s Choice Awards on the other side of the world is an achievement in itself, and lets us know that we are on the right track, and that our work is making a difference.”
The winner will be announced on December 8th in a joint NBC and E! live broadcast from Santa Monica, California. In KSA, fans can watch the live broadcast on E! beginning at 3am for the red carpet, and 5am for the ceremony. Otherwise, it will be available to stream over the internet on OSN starting at midnight.
