Video fans, get excited!
Youtube is launching a new Snapchat-style stories feature very soon.
On Wednesday, the video sharing platform announced its plans to release its own version of stories in the near future.
Introducing…Youtube Reels!
Reels will essentially be Youtube’s answer to the stories format, with slightly different features than Snapchat and Instagram.
Tech Crunch reports that the beta version of Reels will be tested by a handful of lucky creators, before becoming available to the rest of the creator community.
How will this new Reels feature differ from other stories?
Unlike Instagram and Snapchat stories, Youtube’s Reels won’t disappear after a period of time.
“We learned that you want the flexibility to create multiple Reels and have them not expire, so we’ll give you those options,” Youtube said, on its Creator blog.
Creators will also be able to publish more than one Reel, allowing for multiple stories to be watched by their viewers. Reels video clips can also be up to 30 seconds in length – that’s double the amount of time, when compared to an Instagram or Snapchat story video clip. Filters, music, text and “Youtube-y” stickers will also be available.
It will be interesting to see how our favourite Youtubers (Logan Paul, anyone?) will make the most of this new feature. We can’t wait!
