Snapchat’s Latest Feature Will Cure Your FOMO

Introducing Map Explore

Snapchat's Latest Feature Will Cure Your FOMO

Snapchat fans, get excited.

Last week the story-sharing platform introduced Map Explore, the first major update to Snap Map since it was launched in 2017.

Map Explore is a notifications service for Snap Map that allows users to stay in-the-know about what’s going on around them, without having to scroll around on the Map feature themselves.

Whenever a user shares their location on Snap Maps (i.e. those who haven’t opted for ‘Ghost Mode’), uses a new Geofilter in their Story or heads to a mainstream event (like a festival) their Snap friends will be notified of the update. They’ll also receive Explore updates when Snapchat posts in Our Stories, which are typically tied to larger events and breaking news.

According to The Verge this new tool was introduced to make updates easier to find. “We made Map Explore because we noticed that when you open the Map, you aren’t always sure where to start your journey,” Snap Inc. said in a statement. “Unless you swiped outside your city, you might never see some of the amazing events our community is capturing.”

Wondering How To Access Map Explore?

Easy peasy.

First, pinch to zoom out from Snapchat’s camera screen, to launch Snap Maps.

Tap on new updates at the bottom of the screen, then swipe horizontally to scroll through updates from your friends and other content featured on Map Explore. If you want to delete your status or turn on Ghost Mode (and hide your location), tap on the settings icon in the top right hand of the map to change your visibility.

Overall, Map Explore will help to keep you updated about your friends and what’s going on around you.

Kiss FOMO goodbye and give Map Explore a try.
