10 Things You Need To Know About 5G in the UAE

5G is a hot topic here within the UAE.

While this all sounds very exciting, most of us are asking ourselves the following question: What exactly is 5G?

Fifth-generation wireless, known commonly as 5G, is the latest iteration of cellular technology, engineered to greatly increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks.

And it’s going to make our wireless lives a whole lot easier, as the speed of our internet will dramatically increase.

But that’s not all, there’s a whole lot more to 5G than fast wi-fi.

We’ve rounded up 10 things need to know about 5G. Check it out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

1. Say Goodbye To TV As We Know It . . .

5G will completely eliminate the need for clunky cables and boxes. And it will massively disrupt the current wired cable television distribution model and licensing agreements.

2. And Hello To A Supersonic Connection

It will be thirty-three times faster than your current 4G connection, to be exact.

3. It Will Power “The Internet of Things”

In the next few years, we’ll see an increase in the amount of every day objects that have the ability to connect to a network (known as “Internet of Things”). And it’s 5G that will power this network that will connect, say, your kitchen appliances or household devices.

Bottom line: Smart appliances and devices will need a smart wireless network, and that network will be powered by 5G technology.

4. Lower Quality Video Content Will Look Pristine

According to Shelly Palmer from The Palmer Group  “. . . even if someone starts delivering video in 8K, 5G will present it to you perfectly – no buffering, no degradation in video quality.”

5. Wireless Providers Will Have More Data Than Ever Before

You think Facebook has dirt on you?

Once 5G is implemented around the world network providers will be able to gather, store and analyze more information on their customers than ever before – especially if household items are connected to cloud-technology.

6. Many Providers Around The World Are Jumping On The 5G Bandwagon

American network providers Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are all getting ready to roll out 5G wireless connectivity.

In the UK, Vodaphone “. . . has plans to start by trialling radio towers that transmit 4G and 5G before it considers switching over to full-5G networks.”

7. Even The US Government Is Thinking About Building A 5G Network

A White House memo was leaked earlier this year, disclosing plans that the American government was planning to create a centralized, nationwide 5G network to be rolled out within the next few years.

8. Vehicle-To-Vehicle Communication Will Become A Reality

5G will allow cars on the road to communicate with each other, providing they’re tapped into the “Internet of Things”. This could mean fewer accidents and injuries on the road.

9. The First 5G Smartphones and Devices Will Be Rolled Out Soon

LG, Sony, ZTE and HTC all plan to release 5G Smartphones in the near future.

And according to Shelley Palmer “. . . companies like Qualcomm and Samsung are working on 5G modems and routers. Meanwhile, companies like Nokia and Ericsson are working on 5G platforms for mobile carriers. Ericsson has been testing 5G since 2015 and rolled out the first 5G radio system earlier this year.

10. Making The Switch Won’t Be Hard

One thing is for sure: it won’t be hard to switch over to 5G. Internet providers are working on making the transition from 4G to 5G seamless.
