It’s time to jazz up your DM’s with 2019’s new emojis!
Back in February Unicode Consortium, the non-profit organization behind the creation of emojis, approved the newest additions to the emoji family.
While the average Netizens will be very excited to have the ability to include a white heart emoji within their captions, individuals who are disabled will feel more included than ever before when it comes to sharing these digital hieroglyphics with their friends.Â
According to Emojipedia.org “. . . 2019 expands the scope of people that can be represented, including people with various disabilities (proposed by Apple last year) . . . as well emojis which permit a mix of skin tones for people holding hands.”
This includes an ear with a hearing aid, a probing cane (used by visually-impaired individuals) and both manual and motorized wheelchairs (along with emojis of a woman and man sitting within the chairs.) Users can also choose from a variety of skin colors when selecting the emoji of two people holding hands.

In the past emojis have neglected to represent a number of races, skin tones, religions and backgrounds. While there still appears to be some issues with representing certain demographics, including emojis that represent disabilities and impairments is a great step to ensure everyone can enjoy emojis.
