If you’re a fan of YouTube Gaming, we have some bad news for you… The YouTube-owned, standalone gaming platform will officially shut down on May 30.
The purpose of YouTube Gaming was for gaming fans to have a space, where they can specifically share gaming content with other fans. And considering how much gaming-related content there is on the video-sharing platform, it would make sense to have a separate space where gaming fans could connect and share content.
According to Mashable “YouTube will merge existing YouTube Gaming subscriptions to the main site, [but] it’s not possible to transfer the games content which you’ve saved in YouTube Gaming.”
This means it’s not all doom and gloom for gaming fans, who should be able to still access content via the YouTube website.
According to The Verge “YouTube Gaming launched in 2015. YouTube promoted it as a way to improve the live stream experience and keep irrelevant content away from gaming fans, in addition to being a testbed for features like channel memberships and a dark mode.”
Unfortunately, most users weren’t interested in consuming gaming content on a separate app and still watched videos on the main YouTube platform.
