To all the sports fans on Twitter, we have excellent news for you.
According to the New York Times, Twitter’s latest partnership with NBC could maximize this potential; the platform is set to host discussions and sharing around the 2020 Olympics. That’s a big deal!
Here’s how it’s all going down…
Throughout the 2020 Olympics, spectators will vote on which athlete or prime tv live event they would like to see featured. This will be broadcast in the form of a short video on the platform (perhaps showing a race, the unmatched flips of Simone Biles or any other Olympic game – we’ll just have to see!)
According to Engadget “NBC is teaming up with Twitter to bring limited live coverage and highlights, along with a daily 20-minute Olympics show, to Twitter’s website and apps.”
Social Media Today was quick to pull out their comparison notes. They identified similarities between this upcoming gig and a trial streaming Twitter undertook in collaboration with the NBA last season.
Their findings? This was also designed to take engagement levels up a notch like the proposed partnership with NBC is intended to do.
The most common factor between the two gigs is voting. The NBA partnership allowed fans to vote for the athlete they would like to watch up close through the Isolated camera (ISO-CAM). This was meant to show live footage highlighting one favorite player’s skills (viewers choice all the way). It was shared via #NBATwitterlive.
We know the Olympic are always an extremely popular time with viewers, so it will be interesting to see if Twitter can earn a spot of their own in sports broadcasting.
