Keeping up with New York Fashion Week was difficult when shows ran for 8 days, now with the show schedule condensed into 6 days, ensuring you don’t miss out on key runway moments is even more of a challenge.Â
Here’s a round up of the 5 top NYFW designers you should definitely be following on Instagram after their undeniably influential SS20 shows.
From major accessories to bold prints these runway looks are as playful as they are practical, so we’re sure to be implementing some key moments from the below shows into our wardrobes next season.
KHAITE (@khaite_ny)
Up first, aptly self-described as ‘the feminine unique’ is Khaite.
After it’s debut last season, Khaite’s SS20 collection showcased their signature sculptured silhouettes re-imagined with flocked tulle, flounced sleeves and precise tailoring. Make-up was minimal and hair was accessorised with diamante’s and pearls for an extra dose of femininity.
Colours were a combination of dark and neutrals with flashes of red and patterns; plaid and paisley florals were introduced for a romantic yet contemporary finish.
Zimmermann (@zimmermann)
Nostalgia is vital part of Zimmermann’s equation to success, no matter the season and their SS20 collection was no exception. Bringing the 60’s into the present garments were an array of bold tropical batik and foulard prints, accessorised with chunky necklaces, crystals and stones.
Their second look was the epitome of summer, featuring a fringed dress with tiny shells within the tassels, other designs featured puffy sleeves, statement belts and low-rise waists.
Fabrics were fluid with tailored elements in shades of pink, blue, orange and white emulate a sense of freedom and positive energy; a bold collection that still captures the brands romantic feel.
RaisaVanessa (@raisavanessa)
If you thought statement earrings, flares and wrap tops were over, you were wrong, as Raisa Vanessa breathes life back into them.
The Istanbul based haute couture and ready to wear brand graced the runway for the first time and firmly set themselves in the luxury industry. The collection unveiled metallic catsuits, coloured mini dresses and floor length gowns all with cinched in waists. Tassels, ruffles, carefully crafted sleeves, pleats ostentatious beading, prove that for SS20, more is more.
AREA (@area)
A collection of sheer fantasy; Area’s SS20 runway was iconic. The evening wear brand presented over-the-top embellished structures in models’ hair and faces, chain detailing wherever chain detailng was possible; these are looks that are bound to be recreated at festivals next summer.
Beyond colourful make-up gave the collection a magical appeal whilst wardrobe staples brought it back down to earth. The collection represents NYFW at it’s finest; imaginative, luxe, yet still wearable.
Sies Marjan (@siesmarjan)
For designer Sander Lak, colour was the starting point of Sies Marjan SS20 collection and it worked; the jewel-toned palette was represented in everything from the garments to the models pedicures. After colour, texture was the main focus, reptile-embossed satin, super glossy fabrics and patent leather.
The combination of bright colours, shiny textures and a confetti explosion during the finale sound like a faux-pas, yet the tailoring, draping of the fabrics and creative vision make it anything but. Elegance defined, polished and refined, Sies Marjan is the go-to for evening wear.
