Aside from an intruder on the Chanel catwalk and Justin Timberlake being attacked on the way in to Louis Vuitton, there were some good things about Paris Fashion week. The final quarter of Fashion Month brought us major SS20 wardrobe trends that we are definitely on board with.Â
Leather capes, puffy sleeves, white shirts and floral, all trends we have seen previously but completely reinvented for next season. Designs were as daring as they were decadent, allowing Paris to live up to its creative yet elegant reputation.
It would be easy to round up the power houses like Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Balmain, Hermes, McQueen and Valentino yet the chances you are already following them on Instagram are high, so below are the 5 Paris Fashion Week designers you need to search and click that follow button for.
Thom Browne (@thombrowneny)
First up, Thom Browne was in one word, theatrical; hoop skirts, daschund bags and straw hats ensure your SS20 wardrobe will be as dramatic as it is practical.
Silhouettes were exaggerated taking spring/summer away from the usual feminine floating fabrics and instead injecting a dose of masculinity and structure for next seasons dressing. The palette of pastels combined with petticoats, bloomers and ruffles gave the collection the decadence of the 18th century he was inspired by.
Loewe (@loewe)
Craftsmanship is always a key part of Loewe’s collections and SS20 was no exception. Babydoll gowns, co-ord tunics and pants were just a few pieces that made this a collection that real women can wear.
Exploring the etheral side of women the collection added elegance and romance came from chantilly lace and sheer dresses, giving classics a contemporary update. Where other designers chose exaggeration, JW Anderson chose minimal when it came to next seasons silhouettes creating desirable yet functional garments.
Rick Owens (@rickowensonline)
Magical is a way to describe Rick Owens runway. Extravagant headpieces and gold tunics gave a regal feel which is a step away from the designers conventional fierce collections.
Layers were a focal point, bomber jackets and capes were thrown over sequin dresses and garments were abundant with lace detailing. Hot pinks, red and gold paired with chunky leather platform boots, mean SS20 wardrobes will be a mix of glitz and grunge.
Altuzarra (@altuzarra)
Family heirlooms were the inspiration for Altuzarra. Classic wardrobe pieces were completely reinvented; hand-knit sweaters, knit and crochet which often bring back fond memories of childhood summers and grandma’s.
Christmas jumpers. Suede barbour coats, poplin shirts and dresses made from patchwork silk; in a time where sustainability is becoming increasingly important this collection proves fashion can be updated and passed down from generation to generation.
Haider Ackermann (@h.a)
Haider Ackermann combined the men’s and women’s runway to showcase the brands signature androgynous style whilst honouring and showcasing the female frame.
Strong suits were a contrast amongst red carpet worthy gowns. Extreme cut out tops and jackets were a little out there but the perfect statement for warmer climes. Blazers, leather pants and dresses were some of the more wearable aspects of the collection.
