Whether you’re an influencer, a brand or a marketer it’s SUPER important to stay on top of the latest social media trends. Utilizing best practices across a variety of platforms can help cultivate a following, grow your brand’s online presence and increase overall engagement.
Instagram succeeded using Stories as a popular method to increase user engagement. From filters to new Stories features content creators, brands and your average user can expect to see new trends going into 2020.
Microcreatives recently put together a list of the social media trends we can expect to see going into the new year.
You can check out their infographic here or read all about it below. Here are seven social media trends you should watch out for in 2020.
Location-Specific Pages
Think about the amount of times you’ve planned a vacation, immediately searched the place on social media and ended up following a few influencers who are uploading content related to that destination.
Going into 2020, it will be more important than ever before to add or tag the location within your content. Not only will it help users find content related to where they are (or where they plan to be) geographically, there’s a chance a platform’s algorithm may be more inclined to “push” that piece of content to other users who may have a connection to that location.Â
Content Based on Your Activities
Social media users want to view and interact with content that appeals to them and their interests.Â
For all business accounts, check your insights and make note of what content is resonating best with your audience. This way the next campaign would be based on what they like most so they are more likely to engage.
Ephemeral Content
In simple words, ephemeral content is any posts that disappear after 24 hours. This means Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, Whatsapp Stories and everything in between.
Using these tools can increase immediate engagement with your followers. Instagram posts can be advertised on Stories and polls/Q&As can be used to tease new content.Â
Product Discovery via Social Media
Microcreatives say that 50% of all searched will be through images or speeches on social media in 2020.
Users are more likely to buy a product if it is tagged in someone else’s pictures. So if your ootd is 10/10 the next time you go out make sure to tag and price everything on.
Video Will Continue to Rise…
While selfies and photoshoots are great and so are viral tweets, videos cannot be forgotten. 56% of social media users use apps to watch videos. Make creative videos that can be used to promote your brand. Don’t forget to add subtitles because let’s be honest, at least half of all users are watching these videos on mute.
… and Watch Out for Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is changing the game when it comes to social media. Users can’t resist a good AR filter and most aren’t concerned with the actual content/outcome if this new technology is involved. If you’re able to make the most of Facebook 360 and other features that allow users to create their own AR filters, you’ll find yourself (and your content) at an advantage in 2020.
Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing isn’t going anywhere, any time soon. Millenials and Gen-Zers are more likely to purchase products after seeing influencers advertise them. This could be through YouTube videos to sponsored Instagram selfies. Just make sure you work with credible influencers.
