As the world continues to practice social distancing measuring to curb the spread of the coronavirus, dating apps have seen a surge in activity in recent weeks.
According to an article published by Quartz India, the dating app has seen an 11% increase in Gen Z registrations during the week ending March 27, versus the fortnight before, which only underscores the natural behaviour of this age group to migrate to digital platforms for connection and entertainment. More than two in five chats are turning into something more meaningful with a large number of messages exchanged.
Bumble also reported a 25% increase in average messages sent during the initial social distancing perios from the 17-22 March 2020.
The app also reported a 17%Â increase in video calls during the week ended March 27.
For many users, as traditional means of dating and interacting are off the table at the moment, online dating provides the opportunity to connect with new people from a safe space (especially since women are also able to make the first move on the app)
