Australian influencer roasted for her photoshopped picture

Why you should master the art of photoshop – if you’re using it!

Naturally, influencers see the good side and bad side of social media and one of the not-so-good sides is online trolling. However, there is a clear reason why Australian influencer Cartia Mallan has had an online roast, and that is because of her badly photoshopped image on Instagram.

Cartia Mallan has 536 thousand followers on her Instagram page with over 490 thousand subscribers on her YouTube channel. Her posts’ engagement is quite high, so the photoshop mistake was noticed so quickly by her fans and followers.

On Wednesday, Cartia uploaded an image outside her new home in London with typical London townhouse background of the door and black and white coloured square steps. However, there was something different and very noticeable that the influencer didn’t manage to see once she posted the carousel online.

The image needed no close inspection as it was clear that the stairs or legs in the image had been photoshopped due to the unnatural shape of the steps on the ground. After the image was noticed by thousands of her followers, Cartia quickly removed the post and re-uploaded the image where the steps were fixed.

As well as the badly edited image, the influencer had also miss-spelled ‘official’ in her caption which added to the roar on social media. Some people wrote ‘Alice about to go down into wonderland if those stairs warp anymore’ and ‘was she trying to thin out her legs? I’m so confused.’ Even with the new upload, followers could still see some mistakes but couldn’t understand what Cartia was trying to do with the edit.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

A lot of people compare themselves to influencers and celebrities they see on social media so it is important to always be authentic to yourself and your audience. Although there are many photoshop apps that you can download and use, be careful about what you are photoshopping and changing about yourself.

The good thing about photoshopping an image is that you can be creative with what you are posting, and hide away some insecurities if it really means a lot to you. However, creating big and unnecessary changes will get picked up and won’t be true to yourself. This results in trolling online with negative comments on posts, and some people unfollowing your page.
