A BBC report claims that ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools are particularly good at specific tasks. A lecturer at the University of Bath named James Fern stated that “ChatGPT will handle those very well,” using the example of multiple choice questions. We definitely did not anticipate it to perform as well as it did; it was almost 100% accurate.
However, there were indicators that the paper it generated had not been created by a human brain. Rather than relying solely on facts or selecting from a variety of options, ChatGPT struggled to answer more difficult questions.
Results
ChatGPT made several errors when attempting to explain why it is crucial to understand the timing of exercise in relation to nutrition status, for example. It created vague and unattributed statements, repeated portions of the question verbatim twice, and wrote in oversimplified, non-specific language.
Even worse, the chatbot created phony academic papers and cited them in its response. The cited articles simply did not exist, despite the names of the authors and journals being accurate, which would be obvious to examiners with just a quick check.
As a result, while ChatGPT can produce convincing responses in a variety of situations, having it write your college thesis for you at this time seems like going too far. But ChatGPT’s academic prospects aren’t completely over. It is “making a difference in schools and universities already,” according to Gillian Keegan, the U.K.’s education secretary, and it could help teachers with lesson planning and grading.
Therefore, even though ChatGPT can generate persuasive responses in a variety of situations, having it write your college thesis for you at this time seems to be going too far. Additionally, it can assist students in getting started on projects and generating ideas that they can later develop. Even though it might not be able to fully respond to exam questions, it can at least serve as a jumping-off point for additional research.
Even though ChatGPT isn’t likely to graduate anytime soon, the possibility of abuse is still very real. Steve Wozniak, the founder of Apple, recently issued a warning that chatbots might make scams seem even more plausible. Wozniak was also a signatory to an open letter in March that urged a halt to further chatbot development. Although ChatGPT’s future is extremely uncertain, it is unquestionably being researched at colleges and universities across the world.
