Everything You Need To Know About Painkiller

Saudi-born Palestinian actress Dina Shihabi recently unveiled a dramatic tease for her fans on her upcoming Netflix limited series, “Painkiller.” This much-awaited series, slated for debut on August 10th, 2023, is all set to enthrall viewers with its ostensibly “gripping” plot.

Shihabi shared many stills from the miniseries on her Instagram, giving followers a look inside the captivating world of “Painkiller.” The series explores the causes and effects of the terrible opioid epidemic in America, illuminating its enormous social effects.

The series will feature six episodes that clock in at an hour an episode.

The Riyadh-born actress expressed her joy and gratitude for letting her be a part of this historic endeavor, calling it one of the most amazing experiences of her life. “One of the best experiences of my life with a group of the most talented people that I will love forever”, she said while praising the team she worked with. “Can’t wait for you to watch.”

In “Painkiller,” Shihabi appears on screen alongside renowned American actors Matthew Broderick, Uzo Aduba, and Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch. The book “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic” by Barry Meier and the thought-provoking New Yorker piece “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe serve as the series’ primary sources of inspiration.

In addition to “Painkiller,” Shihabi will also appear in the upcoming film “Catching Dust.” She is prepared to give yet another outstanding performance while working with renowned performers including Australian actors Ryan Corr and Jai Courtney as well as American actress Erin Moriarty.

The premiere of “Catching Dust” is scheduled for June 2023.

Dina’s Journey So Far

Shihabi’s path to success has been nothing less than extraordinary. The actor contributes a variety of ethnic backgrounds to her plays as she spent a portion of her life there. Her mother, Nadia, is of mixed Palestinian, German, and Haitian ancestry, while her father, journalist Ali Shihabi, is of Norwegian and Saudi descent. She has also lived in Dubai for a few years.

She achieved a significant milestone as the first Middle Eastern-born woman to be accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School and New York University’s graduate acting program, she graduated from NYU with an MFA in acting in 2014. 

What’s Upcoming For Her?

In her own words: “I’ve been writing and am currently in the process of making my own TV series that I would star in. We’ve signed on with producers and a studio and the next step is to sell it to a streaming service. It’s my baby and I am so excited.”

Dina’s Golden Advice On How To Get Into Acting

“Never be shy to ask for guidance or help but also trust your instincts. There is no rule book for this and allows for trial and error. I’ve done so many things I thought would be setbacks or mistakes and then a year later it led me to where I wanted to be. So whether it’s acting or investment banking, you just have to pick what is most worth it to you to go through the hard work for. You have to really love it and if you do, I think ultimately it is the best job in the world.”
