From 13th May to 31st August 2022, the Theatre of Digital Art (ToDA) in Dubai brings a new dimension to the city’s culture with its upcoming Digital Extravaganza exhibition. ToDA has called on artists globally to showcase their talents through projects that traverse alternate realities and dimensions with this new media spectacle.
ToDA, located in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, invites visitors to imagine themselves as travelers on a multisensory narrative journey. It will take them to unknown lands on Planet Earth and other galaxies to be finally immersed in the Metaverse gallery, created especially for the exhibition by the phygital platform Arhead. By switching between Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, MetaReality, AI, and good-old video, participants will witness different perspectives of visual art.
Each visitor is the protagonist in their story. You can ride along in an apocalypse-horse in Jonathan Monaghan’s “Out of the Abyss”, learn about the solarpunk movement from “Eyra” by Synticate, become a genetic engineer in Luna Ikuta’s “Afterlife”, reflect upon conspiracies in a futuristic world in “Refuge / Refuse” created by Arnaud Laffond, or discover fairy creatures drawn by a child with special needs in the piece of DarkZuu “A special world: a friendly future”.
Additionally, ToDA will also host its first digital model and visualisation of artificial intelligence SYNTI. This 3D holographic figure connected to a language bot will discuss the exhibition and digital art with visitors.
The innovative works of 6 renowned digital artists will be displayed alongside the contemporary art of 10 winners shortlisted from almost hundreds of applications, in response to ToDA’s international open call. For those who desire to deep dive into the artworks, these will be minted as NFTs and also transformed into 3D assets ready for AR and ToDA’s Metaverse space.
Through the eyes of the best established and emerging artists from across the world under a single roof, ToDA opens the door to an unreal virtual space in the real world.
