The globes largest charity esports festival is back for 2021! Gamers Without Borders (GWB) is a 9-day online festival held under the name ‘No One Left Behind.’
The series will results in the distribution of a $10 million charity prize-fund. The best gamers in the world will be battling for titles including: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Rocket League, PUBG MOBILE and CS:GO.
According to their website, “The 2020 virtual festival saw more than 460,000 causal gamers from 141 countries participating in community tournaments and tens of millions of viewers from over 125 countries watching eSports’ top teams, and franchises for seven weeks of online gaming that saw $10 million donated to multiple global charitable organizations including UNICEF, GAVI, IMC, and Direct Relief fighting on the frontline against the spread of COVID-19.”
The events goal this year is to help underdeveloped countries control outbreaks of COVID-19:
“For 2021, the festival returns bigger and better. Gamers Without Borders: No One Left Behind, will go on a mission to distribute the vaccine to underdeveloped countries and communities that are at risk of being forgotten and are continuing to suffer in comparison to other global superpowers who are moving into a post-pandemic era.”
Regarding GWB 2020, Carla Haddad Mardini, Director of UNICEF’s Division for Private Fundraising and Partnerships, stated:
“We are grateful to the winners of the first Gamers Without Borders edition last year who donated their prize money to help us continue to accelerate and respond to COVID-19 immediate needs. We would be delighted if this year’s winners would also donate to UNICEF to help us get COVID-19 vaccines to those that need them most.”
