Ubisoft says goodbye to Tom Clancy's Elite Squad

Ubisoft has announced that it will be shutting down Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad on October 4. The mobile RPG video game launched in 2020 and featured popular characters Rainbow Six, H.A.W.X, The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and EndWar.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad developers revealed via Twitter that the video game was “no longer sustainable”:

“This was not an easy decision, but after exploring multiple options with our teams, we came to the conclusion that it was no longer sustainable. We want to assure you all that we really gave it our best, especially with big updates like Season 2, and it was a truly rewarding experience to work with you, our passionate community!”

Prior to its official launch, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad faced major backlash over its insensitive introductory video depicting the “raised fist” – often associated with the Black Lives Matter movement – as a terrorist organization’s symbol. Ubisoft later apologized for the video via Twitter:

“Imagery that appeared in the opening video sequence of Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad featuring a ‘raised fist’ was insensitive and harmful in both its inclusion and how it was portrayed. We have listened to and appreciate the players and the broader community who have pointed it out and we apologize.”
